SUPERMACS SUPREME IN GOLF CLASSIC

posted — August 31st 2010

BUCCANEERS ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC took place at Glasson Golf & Country Club on Friday last when a team representing SUPERMACS proved supreme in a day of fine golf and pretty good scoring. Weather and course conditions ensured that this year’s classic not only drew a greatly increased turnout but also meant that competition for top honours was keenly contested.

SUPERMACS, consisting of John Kennedy, Peter Murphy, Tom Browne and Carl Creaven, triumphed on an excellent score of 93 points, just a solitary point ahead of a clutter of other contenders. Here stalwarts CARTY MEATS – Tom Watson (the Drum version!), Linda Maxwelll, Sean Cleary and Justin Lennon -- snatched second place on 92 points by virtue of their scoring on the back nine.

TUBBERCURRY ENGINEERING, also regulars of this event, edged third place in a tight finish by virtue of their last six, such was the closeness of the overall scoring. Jarlath Henry, Robert Hughes, Derek Walsh and Kevin Henry were the quartet here. Former Buccaneers captain Joe McVeigh clinched the’Longest Drive’ prize while the award for ‘Nearest the Pin’ went to Mary Rose Coughlan.

On behalf of the club, President Pat Hynes gratefully acknowledged all who participated in this long-running event and thanked all our sponsors who again came up trumps. Thanks too to the event organisers Hugh Conlon and Eamonn Fagan with more than a little assistance from our Administrator Geraldine Kenny. He duly complimented the host club for the wonderful playing conditions and the hospitable service at the 19th green!
